It’s All About the Boom Factor: Types of Booms

A bucket truck driving down the street is quite a sight to behold. These trucks can easily reach heights of up to 105 feet, so seeing them in their full glory is always a wonderful thing.

With their booms and baskets, it’s easy to assume that these trucks are all the same. This is not the case, however, as there are in fact different types of bucket trucks that vary according to their usage. These trucks can also be categorized according to their most distinguishable feature.

The boom is the most prominent part of the truck as it gives it height. The most common types of booms can be categorized into insulated and uninsulated booms. An insulated boom has a fiberglass component that is built into its structure. This is meant to prevent the flow of electric currents through the truck.

Non-insulated booms, as the name suggests, are not insulated and in no way can resist the flow of electricity. These two booms are extremely important because the type of boom can mean the difference between life and death.

Workers in the electrical industry are constantly exposed to high voltages. That in mind, they need to have insulated booms in order to prevent any dangerous accidents from happening. That’s why electrical startups who want to buy a bucket truck should remember this small fact well.
